What Is a ZIP Screen and How Does the ZIP-Guided System Work?
A ZIP screen is a guided roller shading system where the fabric edges are secured inside side tracks through a ZIP connection. Unlike free-hanging blinds, ZIP screens provide better fabric control, cleaner appearance and improved stability for patios, pergolas and large outdoor openings.
ZIP-Guided Structure
Fabric edges are secured inside side tracks to maintain controlled movement and improve system stability.
Better Fabric Control
The guided structure helps reduce unnecessary movement compared with traditional free-hanging blinds.
Custom Solutions
ZIP screen systems can be customized for patios, pergolas, balconies and commercial openings.
What Is a ZIP Screen?
A ZIP screen is a guided roller shading system designed to control fabric movement through a ZIP edge and side track structure.
Unlike traditional free-hanging roller blinds, the fabric edges of a ZIP screen are connected with side guide tracks. This allows the fabric to remain positioned within the opening during operation.
A complete ZIP screen system normally includes:
●Screen fabric
●ZIP edge connection
●Side guide tracks
●Roller tube
●Bottom bar
●Housing cassette
How Does a ZIP Screen Work?
Step 1 — Fabric Rolls Up and Down
The roller tube controls the upward and downward movement of the screen fabric through manual or motorized operation.
Step 2 — ZIP Edge Connects With Side Tracks
The ZIP profile remains engaged inside the guide tracks while the screen moves vertically.
Step 3 — Side Tracks Control Fabric Movement
The guided structure helps maintain alignment and reduce unnecessary sideways movement.
Step 4 — Complete System Works Together
Fabric, ZIP structure, hardware and installation conditions determine final performance.

What Is a ZIP Screen?
Free-Hanging Blinds
Suitable for sheltered locations and simple shading needs. Fabric movement is less controlled because there is no side guidance.
Cable-Guided Blinds
Provides side support through cables and is suitable for moderate exposure areas.
ZIP Screens
Fabric edges are secured inside side tracks, providing better control for patios, pergolas and larger openings.
Why The Complete ZIP Screen System Matters
A stronger fabric alone does not create a stronger shading system. ZIP screen performance depends on the complete combination of fabric, ZIP connection, guide tracks, roller tube and installation.
Fabric + ZIP Edge + Side Track + Roller Tube + Installation = Complete System Performance
How To Choose The Right ZIP Screen
Balcony & Patio
Suitable for projects requiring solar protection, privacy improvement and outdoor comfort.
Pergola
Suitable for side shading, wind reduction and creating a more comfortable outdoor room.
Commercial Opening
Suitable for restaurants, hotels and projects requiring larger coverage and frequent operation.
Best for
ZIP screens are suitable for projects requiring better fabric control, privacy and outdoor comfort.
Trade-off
ZIP screens provide better stability compared with simpler blind structures, but require more components and precise installation.
